Garden puzzle
This very English style backyard needed eye-catching landscaping ideas. David Harber's creative response was for a garden design featuring intriguing puzzles — classic elements in his garden art.
The main feature of the design is a line leading the eye along a rill through circular formal gardens past a stainless steel water orb through to a culminating Portal garden sculpture.
The illusions start from the driveway alongside the garden. Only glimpses of the design feature are visible: first, the shimmering orb through a gap in the hedge; then, orb and Portal appear simultaneously, except that — because of the angle — they appear mysteriously as just one piece.
Further illusions await at the house. Looking straight down the line of the rill, the steel orb seems to fill the whole Portal, providing another arresting puzzle.
