Landscape sculpture for private islandPrevious Next
The Ortus (Latin for sunrise) custom landscape sculpture is installed on a private island off the South Coast of England.
The sculpture is an evolution of David Harber's iconic Torus – customized to reflect the rugged landscape of the island. A striking 3.25 metre iris of irregular verdigris copper pipe is suspended within a marine grade stainless steel ring.
Each morning, sunrise is captured through the hole in the Ortus, appearing through a kaleidoscope of copper branches. This effect is achieved by rotating the landscape sculpture each evening, guided by an accurate compass plate alongside, to align it with the point on the horizon where the sun will rise the next day.
