Dark Planet garden sphere lit up at night

A major hit in my garden. People are drawn to it like homing pigeons.

London, England

Dark Planet is made from hundreds of irregular black puddle stones or shards of slate, painstakingly arranged to form a unified whole. Thus, raw nature is transformed into geometry, creating a play between the tactile and the visual.

At dusk, light permeates through the fissures between the stones, illuminating Dark Planet's core to dramatic effect.

The Dark Planet stone sphere is also available as a fountain.

Modern garden sculpture made of Welsh Slate

These Dark Planet garden spheres are created from hundreds of pieces of Welsh slate.

Stone garden sphere

This piece can be constructed from smooth black puddle stones or shards of Welsh slate. Internal lighting is included, which shines out through the gaps in the stones at night and transforms the sculpture into a mesmerising sight.

Dark Planet comes in a 30", 39" and 47" diameter, with other sizes available on request.

A power feed to the site is required and connection of the feature to the mains power supply must be undertaken by a qualified electrician. The light for this feature is a waterproof sodium 50 watt/240 volt bulb which will require a 3 core, RCD protected armoured cable feed. A suitable concrete or stone foundation pad will also be required, and both must be organised by the client in advance of installation. It is possible to mount the piece on a plinth of the customer's choice should extra height be required.

Installation and delivery are included in the price for UK commissions, and for overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.

The slate and pebbles used on the Dark Planet will exhibit some natural weathering with age, however, periodic cleaning will help preserve its beauty. We would recommend that the feature be cleaned with only warm water and a soft cloth to remove any detritus. Use of any abrasive cleaner will damage the finish and must be avoided. Maintenance instructions will be issued on installation.
