Landcraft Garden Foundation: A Celebration of Craftsmanship and Landscape
In the heart of Long Island, the Landcraft Garden Foundation is an extraordinary public garden dedicated to inspiring, educating and promoting gardening, horticulture, design, the arts and the preservation of our natural environment. Created by Dennis Schrader and Bill Smith, the garden is renowned for its diverse plant collections, innovative design, and immersive landscapes that inspire curiosity, learning, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
This summer, visitors to the Landcraft Garden Foundation will have the opportunity to experience a special exhibition of David Harber artworks set within the Foundation’s inspiring landscape. Installed throughout the gardens, the sculptures create a compelling dialogue between contemporary art and the natural environment, inviting visitors to experience the landscape through a new artistic lens.
The exhibition reflects a broader tradition of collaboration among artists, landscape architects, horticulturists, gardeners, craftspeople, and makers. The sculptures featured at Landcraft were recently exhibited as part of the David Harber stand at the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show; a project rooted in rich collaboration between David Harber, Hollander Design Landscape Architects, ABC Stone and other incredible partners. Celebrating the enduring value of traditional skills, craftsmanship, and the working landscape, the garden demonstrated how art and landscape can come together to tell powerful stories about heritage and creativity. Landcraft visitors now have the rare opportunity to experience these same works within another extraordinary garden setting.
On display are six sculptures from David Harber’s collection: Flo, Armillary Sphere, Hydra, Mantle II, Obelisk, and Rush. Each work responds differently to its surroundings – capturing light, reflecting seasonal change, and creating moments of discovery throughout the landscape.
The exhibition aligns closely with the Landcraft Garden Foundation’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the connection between art and landscape. At Landcraft, the ornamental and the practical have always existed side by side. The garden is not only a place of beauty and wonder, but also one of cultivation, experimentation, and learning, recognising gardens as repositories of knowledge as well as sources of inspiration.
“At the Landcraft Garden, plants tell stories of exploration, adaptation, and wonder. David Harber’s sculptures add another voice to that narrative. Rising from the landscape, reflecting light, and drawing the eye through the garden, these works invite contemplation and surprise. They remind us that gardens are living works of art—places where creativity, craftsmanship, and the rhythms of nature come together to create moments of lasting beauty.
Whether reflecting the changing light, echoing the forms of surrounding plants, or standing as bold architectural statements within the landscape, these works deepen our appreciation of place. They encourage us to look more closely, linger a little longer, and recognize that the most memorable gardens nourish both the imagination and the spirit.”
Dennis Schrader, President and Co-Founder of The Landcraft Garden Foundation
The sculptures will remain on display throughout the summer season, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience David Harber’s work within one of America’s most distinctive garden landscapes – a celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and the enduring relationship between art and nature.
