Design details
Sentinel explores how two bodies can co-exist in close proximity without touching.
Sentinel’s two halves are split vertically by two internal faces of marine-grade polished steel, creating kaleidoscopic reflections in the mirrored surfaces.
The sculpture’s outer shell is fashioned from a tall ovoid crafted from hundreds of shards of tactile Welsh slate.
At night, Sentinel comes alive thanks to uplighters at its footing.
The classic design is created using Welsh slate, however there is always the option to create a customised version using an alternative stone such as marble.
Product information
David Harber will provide a piece of conduit and drawcord for the electric supply which is cast into the ground by the client at the desired location and secured with a concrete foundation. Once the concrete has been cured, Slate Sentinel is fixed in place with a base plate.
Installation and delivery are included in the price for UK commissions, and for overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.
The finishes used on Slate Sentinel will exhibit some natural weathering with age, however, periodic cleaning will help preserve its beauty. We would recommend that it be cleaned at least once a year with only warm water and a soft cloth to remove any detritus.
Hose the slate with water and brush gently. Do not pressure wash it as the water might get in and damage the electrics inside. To clean the stainless steel, wipe the mirror-polished surface very gently with a soft, damp microfiber cloth or tissue. Use of any abrasive cleaner will damage the finish and must be avoided.
Maintenance instructions will be issued on installation.
