2000 Ocean
Miami Beach, Florida
This strikingly beautiful Torus in marine-grade stainless steel serves as an iconic focal point for a contemporary roof terrace at 2000 Ocean: a private residential enclave in Miami Beach, Florida, designed by Enrique Norten of TEN Architects.
In this luxurious setting, Torus’ sleek appearance and refined presence happily reflects and extends its contemporary environment, and compliments the clean, simple and sophisticated design of the building itself.
Design details
Discovery
Having originally commissioned a sculpture for his private home in the Hamptons, this client, who is the developer behind Kar Properties, approached us to commission a new piece for his latest residential project in Miami. He required a sculpture that was both sophisticated and dramatic and could complimented the communal garden area where the final piece was to live.
Design
We created a 3m Torus that was large and imposing at garden level but visible from most of the apartments too, to give a sense of shared ownership. Our design engineers collaborated with Kar Properties’ Florida-based engineers to ensure the piece could withstand potential hurricanes, which was a design requirement from the outset.
Development
Installed with an appropriately durable foundation support structure, we positioned the marine-grade stainless steel sculpture so it would reflect the surrounding architecture, trees and ever-changing sky. Additional lighting makes this exceptional Torus appear as beguiling by day as it does by night.
