A garden of four seasons
A sequence of sculptures to tell the tale of changing seasons. The collection was tailored specifically to a newly created garden room hidden within magnificent and extensive grounds. The classical design of the garden lent itself to a more natural metal, so the majority of each piece is made from chestnut-hued oxidised steel with flashes of mirror-polished stainless steel for intrigue and reflection.
Design details
Winter
This crystalline form, like an ice-crystal frozen in time, narrates the harshness of winter. A concertina of oxidised steel is interrupted with shards of stainless steel to offer flashes of pale sky and passing clouds; light relief from the frigid dormancy of the garden in winter.
Spring
Shaped like a single seed, spring represents the potential for growth. The embryonic leaf waiting for spring rain.
Summer
Oxidised steel husks fall away to reveal a new, shiny stainless steel shoot reaching skyward towards the sun.
Autumn
Inspired by steel breeze, the autumn stage of the story talks to the latter half of the season, after the harvest. When hundreds of reflective puddles form in the divots of the fields and the whispers of first frosts begin.
