Discover Nexa – a bold new sculpture for RHS Chelsea 2026

Nexa

Derived from the Latin word meaning ‘connector’ or ‘link’, Nexa is a bold statement piece that symbolizes unity and connection. A woven framework of intricately interlaced bronze rods, finished in our signature verdigris patina, speaks to the tactile language of craftsmanship and pays homage to one of humanity’s oldest crafts: weaving. Finely woven copper mesh embellishes the celebration of the handmade, and gives Nexa a sense of levity and playfulness, as well as a multi-layered dialogue of textures.

Design details

A contemporary, organic metal sculpture crafted from woven bronze rods and triangles of copper mesh.

Nexa’s interlaced form brings together a striking color combination: David Harber’s iconic, quietly luminous verdigris bronze patina meets the warm, burnished tone of copper mesh in a pairing that is both bold and harmonious.

Close up of trangles of tensioned copper mesh held in place with bronze rivets.

The copper mesh material is tensioned between a delicate bronze framework and held in place with traditional boat-building copper rivets, each hand-peened and patinated. The result is a sculpture of extraordinary tactility: the rivets invite the touch of the hand, while the copper mesh has been deliberately crumpled and re-tensioned to create an animated, textured surface that feels at once ancient and entirely new.

At sunset, the circular metal void of a bronze metal outdoor sculpture reveals a snapshot of the countryside in the distance. The triangles of copper mesh held between bronze rods glow in the fading light.

A void within the composition suspends an open ring reveals the transient rhythms of the surrounding landscape, as well creating a point of stillness and reflection within the design.

‘Ever inspired by nature and humankind, Nexa takes inspiration from the woven forms found in the natural world, and the transformative craft of weaving — one of the human artforms that fundamentally shaped our development as a species. Nexa is organic in shape and structurally composed of fragments of immaculately delicate woven material. It is both fragile and resilient, an intricate structure that captures the elements.’

David Harber

A large metal sculpture made from woven verdigris bronze metal work sits in a formal garden setting, and is illuminated by the glow of evening light.

Light is central to Nexa’s character: by day, the textured copper mesh surface captures and scatters sunlight, shifting with the hours; by night, a hidden light source positioned within the ring casts a soft radiating light that highlights the sculptural detail and textures of the woven mesh.

The act of weaving is a dialogue of repetition – a process that creates a natural sense of rhythm. Nexa’s woven form, which takes this ancient tradition and transforms it into contemporary metalwork, feels inherently calming and familiar, echoing the interlacing structures we recognize from the natural world.

David Harber woven bronze sculpture, Nexa, is placed on a lush green lawn surrounded by leafy trees to provide a focal point for bedding that houses late season tulips and cammassia.

Product information

Nexa is supplied with a baseplate. However, the client will need to provide a smooth and level stone or concrete pad positioned just below ground level for the plate to attach to. Stainless steel bolts are then resin-fixed into holes and drilled into the stone or concrete pad to provide a secure fixing. It is possible to supply FLO with an LED light for which an electrical supply will need to emerge up through the center of the concrete pad. We supply the driver for the LED lighting.

Overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.

The bronze Nexa is made from will exhibit some natural weathering with age; however, periodic cleaning will help preserve its beauty. We would recommend that it be cleaned at least once a year with only warm water and a soft cloth to remove any detritus. Use of any abrasive cleaner will damage the finish and must be avoided. Maintenance instructions will be issued on installation.
